Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore has been re-branded as Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore after a complete S$80 million makeover. The resort re-opened on 18 January 2011 after a 10-month facelift – the resort’s most extensive to date. The only resort in Singapore with a beachfront location, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore offers services and facilities catering to leisure and business travellers. Rooms feature views of the hill, garden, pool or sea, with a balcony in each room for guests to enjoy the lush natural surroundings. The number of rooms has been reduced from 459 to 454 rooms and range in size from 31 square metres for a superior room to 150 square metres for the Sentosa Suite. Rooms are designed specifically to suit the different needs of travellers. The rooms are furnished in soothing accents of green and beige to complement the resort’s lush and natural environment with wood as the predominant material used throughout the room design. Displayed prominently above the head of the bed is the floral carving and the leaf motifs that run across the bedding. The resort features seven dining and entertainment options: Dine On 3, a destination-dining concept that features three restaurants (Casserole, Silver Shell Cafe and 8 Noodles) and a bar (The Bubble Bar) under one roof. Casserole seats 247 and offers group dining with a selection of family style portions of Western, Indian, Moroccan and South East Asian casserole dishes. Silver Shell Cafe features chefs in action at live cooking stations preparing a la minute buffet specialities for luncheons and dinners, as well as international à la carte selections. Chinese noodle house, 8 Noodles, serves different value for money noodle selections and traditional Chinese roast meats. The Bubble Bar offers indoor and outdoor seating options. Barnacles Restaurant serves seafood and grill by the waterfront with indoor and outdoor dining areas. Siloso Beach Bar, located by the resort’s swimming pool, offers a chill out spot with an ice cream bar. Trapizza features an open-air layout at Siloso Beach. The best selling item on its menu is the crispy, thin crust pizza baked in a traditional wood-fired oven. Spanning 100 square metres over two-storeys, Cool Zone is the largest children’s club provided by a hotel in Singapore. Free for in-house guests for children aged five to 12, Cool Zone offers children’s meals and three activity centres (Toots Club, Craft Zone and Game Zone) that are fully supervised by an experienced recreational team. Cool Zone features a large slide that winds from level three of the resort down into a pool of colourful balls on level one. Guests can take a dip in the natural water swimming pool, whilst children can splash around at the water slides and children’s pool under a canopy, or the fun splash pad. A water management system is installed to keep the water in the pools in its natural state, where only the minimum statutory amount of chlorine is added, as opposed to four to five chemicals used in a commercial pool. This minimises guests’ risks of allergic reaction and respiratory problems triggered by chlorine, eliminates eye irritation and is gentle to the skin and hair. Other recreational facilities include The Flying Trapeze, the Sea Sports Centre, the swimming pools and outdoor Jacuzzis. Corporate guests can look forward to holding meetings in one of the 14 meeting and function spaces. Each function room features an intelligent lighting system, soundproof double walls and the latest audio-visual equipment. The resort’s beachfront location provides guests with more options, such as holding a meeting during the day followed by a theme dinner on the beach or weaving team-building activities into meeting programmes. The resort is one of the few hotels in Singapore that can offer organisers such a mix of meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) services. In addition, the beachfront location is an ideal venue for couples looking to hold a romantic sunset wedding. Sentosa is located 15 minutes from the main shopping and business district of Orchard Road and 25 minutes from Changi International Airport.
